Remember Peter Deuel
A SPECIAL NOTE FROM PETER’S BROTHER
This is Geoffrey Deuel.
It has been brought to my attention that the videoclip from the documentary “Remembering Pete Duel (December 31, 2013) with Geoffrey Deuel” (as seen below) that Laura Moretti and I are in the process of producing has been copied, posted, video-capped, and/or embedded on websites that claim they are fans of my brother, Peter Deuel.
This documentary and, therefore, the videoclip itself, are copyrighted to me alone and, unless permission is granted by me, no one, and I mean no one, has the right to use it in any manner whatsoever for any reason they see fit otherwise.
In the past, the same people who are currently posting the video or video captures they made on their sites, and who shall remain anonymous (at least for now), have claimed that their websites are devoted to honoring my brother and his memory. As far as I am concerned, given this violation of copyright, they show no honor whatsoever. All they show is a great lack of respect for me and, therefore, for Peter’s memory.
The reason I allowed this videoclip to be posted online, including on Youtube, was for fans to enjoy a sneak preview of our upcoming documentary. I now regret that decision. I believe Peter would be extremely disappointed in the actions of those who would willfully violate my copyright and by how they have treated his memory.
Because of their actions, I have ordered the videoclip to be removed from Youtube. It can only be seen here on The Pete Duel Memorial Site (www.peteduel.info). If further violations occur by others from this site, I will have no recourse but to remove it from here, as well.
I have been reluctant over the years to publicize my exclusive photographs and memories, as well as my feelings and thoughts, for this very reason, so unless the video embed and video captures/screenshots are removed from all sites except this one, I will have to reconsider my involvement in the documentary. I may also seek legal action against violators.
I urge the true fans of my brother, Peter, and myself, to admonish these people.
A heartfelt “thank you” to the true and respectful fans of Peter Deuel.
You may leave your comments regarding this video for Geoffrey below. Thank you.
Dear Geoffrey,
Seeing this short piece of footage was so precious and special – thank you so much for sharing your photos and memories with us.
I have loved and adored your brother since 1971. Despite your sadness, you must be so, so proud of him and the way that he touched so many lives.
I couldn’t help but cry when I saw you holding his Heyes hat so tenderly and lovingly and carefully. It’s absolutely right that you shouldn’t wear it – it was so much a part of him and the rôle and it has become an iconic symbol. I can’t imagine what it must be like to touch it and hold it…
So thank you again. I have two dreams – to meet you and talk with you, and to visit Peter’s grave. I realise that neither are likely to happen…but what is life without dreams??
Xx
Dear Geoffrey, thank you for allowing us to draw closer to Pete, and to you and your family through this video. He doesn’t seem that far away at the moment. His hat has the best and most loyal guardian. thank you again, and warm wishes from Pat in Ipswich, England
Hi Geoffrey .I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your memories and photographs of Pete with us .They must be very special to you and I feel it is very generous of you to share them, after all they are your exclusive property and you have every right to keep them private.I enjoyed the short clip of the documentary you and Laura made ,I don’t suppose it will ever be shown in the UK but I would love to see it. Seeing you hold Pete’s hat so tenderly was so poignant.I recently purchased a beautiful
photograph of Pete through this site and will treasure it forever.Wishing you well at this difficult time of year .liz from Scotland
Dear Geoffrey,
Of all my memories as a boy growing up in London, watching your dear brother Peter in Alias Smith & Jones is my happiest. He was truly a great actor and in every way and man who to this day is greatly admired and highly respected. I am sure all of us in England who were as devastated by his tragic early death as you and your family wish you an enormous thank you for sharing such precious memories and photos. I am not sure if Peter ever visited England, but his memory is celebrated by many people here. God bless his soul and god bless you and your family.
Dear Geoffrey, how kind of you to share your thoughts, photos and memories. Please be assured that we, true fans of Pete, appreciate the opportunity to also share these with you. I remember so vividly watching AS&J when it aired in New Zealand 44 years ago and having a huge crush on Pete, such a handsome man who also came across as being a genuinely real and likeable person. He was a joy to watch, and so many people obviously feel the same way. It’s wonderful to read that a documentary of his life and career may soon be made. Thanks again, sincerely yours.
Sarah (Auckland, New Zealand)
Just to reiterate what many others have said. I watched the original series as a very young teen and am watching a re-run in the UK (I’ve recorded every episode!). I’m so grateful for the internet and sites like this so I can dive back into the past and in good company, whenever I want to. X
Pete Duel, a star, shining bright forever. Hard to believe 43 years has passed by so quickly, everything changes but Hayes and Curry are still riding the range in the reruns, and are still my favourite cowboys. Thank you so much for sharing your memories of Pete, you must miss him, we all do. My best wishes to you, Carol from Manchester England.
Just come across your website. Alias Smith and Jones has just been shown daily here in England. I was about 12 when it was first shown here. I have watched it on and on over the years from my DVD sets of the series. It takes me right back to when I was young, every time. It’s very hard to believe that Pete and Ben didn’t get along – they are so natural together on film. For me it has been the greatest TV series of all time because of the way it makes me feel. I also find it hard to believe that the TV company were thinking of ending it prematurely. Why would they carry it on with Roger Davies if that was so? And that’s another story – how could they choose a replacement actor for Pete when Roger had been a ‘baddie’ in a previous episode. That just didn’t make sense. The rumour over here was that you Geoffrey were an ideal choice. We were told you looked like him and were an actor too – I don’t know how much of that was true, but it would have been easier to accept for us. The BBC in England held off showing the new series with Roger for over a year, as a sign of respect for Pete. I thought the scripts were just as good with Roger but the shows never seemed right without Pete and also I believe the american public never accepted the fact that Pete had been replaced so unsympathetically quickly for the reason it ended. Anyway, all the best to you. My enthusiasm for Alias Smith and Jones will never change. Best wishes, Lea
Dear Geoffrey, I was 13yrs old when I saw Alias Smith and Jones for the first time, I think Pete was the first love of my life and I cried the day I heard he had died. Its wonderful that you have all these wonderful memories of him, he was a special person to so many people and I for one will never forget him, take care, Denise from the UK
Dear Geoffrey. I am in London, UK and am really enjoying watching the re-run of Alias Smith & Jones although I believe there are only three more episodes with Pete in the role. I am in my sixties now but was a great fan of the show and of Pete when it was first aired in this country. I can still remember the day when I came out of work and saw on the news-stand at Green Park Station that Pete was dead. I was devastated! I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video and am grateful that you felt able to share your memories and the many photos of Pete with his fans. God bless you and your family.
A moment in time. A happy time for me. Peter will be a part of my lifes story. I cannot forget him – he was so beautiful to me – I wish I could have met him. When I think of Peter I smile.
There are some of us out there that will never forget Pete. The brightest flames burns for the shortest time.
Dear Geoffrey. Thank you for sharing those lovely pictures of Pete. Pete was my first love, as a 13 year old watching Alias Smith and Jones on the BBC in 1971. I had two huge posters of him on my bedroom wall. I was heartbroken when he died. Time passes and memories fade but last week my love of cycling brought those memories flooding back. I was watching the Tour de France on ITV4 and discovered it was re running AS&J just before the highlights show. It’s been wonderful to see it again. My best wishes to you, Sue, UK.
Hi I am from the UK and have just started watching the AS&J series again. Your video brought tears to my eyes. I remember watching Pete as a kid (of about 6) and “fell in love” with him. His smile was infectious. I think the same now, and I love the series just as much. Thank you for sharing these wonderful pictures of Pete and long may his name live on in our memories.
Dear Geoffrey, I am from the United Kingdom and they have just started to show Alias Smith and Jones again on the television, both me and my husband are in our fifties and we enjoyed watching Pete the first time, this time I get to watch it again with my two boys, who are 17 and 21 and they love it as must as we loved it back then. I would just like to thank you for sharing your memories and the beautiful photographs of Pete and we especially loved the family photos. God Bless to you and your family, Julie Middleton
Thankyou Geoffery,
As a boy I watched Alias Smith and Jones when it aired in the UK.We only had 3 channels in this country the time and the show was the biggest on tv.Imagine as a 9 year old how crestfallen I was to read of the sad and tragic loss of your brother and to this day it resonates with me.
Today after some 40 years,we have the re runs on ITV 4 and I’m watching your brother now on as I type this!! God Bless you and your family,Denis
Thanks so much for sharing your memories. I was wondering if we would get to see “the hat.” You didn’t disappoint! It’s still in great condition. Well, the condition Pete left it in. LOL! I remember the tear at the top after several episodes of AS&J had been filmed. Pete wore it like that. I remember Ben said that Pete didn’t care about his hat. He would toss it somewhere and the dogs would sit on it. LOL! You are great at remembering the little details and describing them. Stuff that I wouldn’t notice until you pointed them out. Thanks and God bless.
Dear Geoff. Nice to see this! You’re looking great, Geoff!! I have always been a great fan of yours! (not Pete). Have a lot of your movies! Take care. Love from Sweden
Geoffrey isn’t comfortable wearing Peter’s hat for reasons I imagine we can all understand. Fans often ask him to wear it, but he prefers not to.
Lookin great, Geoffrey!!!! Thanks for letting us into your home and showing us your collection. So glad that you still have the hat! Would be nice to see you in it; maybe in the next clip? Keep up the good work. All the best. Stay happy. Lots of love.
Thank you for this video !
For the new year ‘wish you all luck, and a new year wherin he’s not forgotten.
Almost two or three days a week I listen on ipod to AS&J while working in my garden !

Hi Geoffrey. I love the fact that you are so happy to share your photos and memories of Pete with us. It means a lot. I am so glad that you have looked after Pete’s hat.
