REMEMBERING PETE DUEL

Thank you to everyone who leaves such poignant and heartfelt expressions in The Memorial Book—and for all your kind words about this site. Your kinship is extremely appreciated. —Laura
Please post your thoughts below. The previous Memorial Book was receiving too much spam, so I had to close it and start this page instead. The previous memorial page also had hundreds of remembrances. I hope to someday transfer them here.
There may be a delay between when you leave your thoughts below and when your post appears, but rest assured, the post will eventually be published. Please keep in mind that many questions still remain about Peter’s state of mind in those final days of his life. One recent question is how much of a role the anti-seizure drug, Dilantin, played on his thoughts. Perhaps Pete was a victim of a pharmaceutical drug and not so much of self-inflicted depression. Also note that Geoffrey Deuel sometimes visited this page. Thank you.
Interesting reading about a show I watched over 50 years ago. Still wonder how long it would have lasted if Pete had lived. I used to watch on MeTV until about a couple years ago. They stop showing it. I could watch most of the shows over and over again. I didn’t like watching Smiler with a gun much since Roger Davis [played] such a bad guy.
I have been watching the Alias Smith and Jones series on DVD. I purchased for the set for my late husband. He died unexpectedly, so he never had the opportunity to view it. We had enjoyed the series when we were younger. I feel as if my husband is enjoying the shows with me. I was always drawn to Pete’s gorgeous smile. Blessings to his friends, family and fans. It is bittersweet to watch his shows now.
Hello – my mother Carol Hester spent her summers at Little Hawk Lake in Haliburton in Ontario, Canada with Pete and Geoff. She has fond memories with them staying at the Sawyer’s Cabins. (Gord – nickname Pete and Mabel).
I’m sitting here casually watching Chisum for the tenth time, not really paying attention. And there is this man, I’ve noticed him before. Is the Peter Duel? I looked up the cast and it is a Geoffrey Duel. Could they be brothers? Another search later, and yes, they are. I watched Alias Smith and Jones as a 13-year-old boy, and loved it. Especially Pete Duel. That smile and go lucky attitude. I admired him so much. Then one day I heard that he died, and the way he died. I was crushed. I couldn’t understand how someone with that gleam in his eye that huge smile, and friendly attitude could pass in such a way. All I knew of him was his screen life, but after finding this site, I see that he was so much more. At 64 years old, my heart still has that ache when I think about that 13-year-old kid and his hero.
Hallo all together,
it`s so sad to hear about Geoffreys passing. Another good human being is gone away. My condolences to the family.
Best regards
Diana
